Dr. Aad van der Lugt, PhD, is Professor of Neuroradiology and Head/Neck Radiology at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam/NL. He co-founded the stroke centre at the Erasmus MC in 2014 in which patient care, research and training of stroke oriented departments are integrated.

He is Clinical Section Chief Neuroradiology as well as director of the neuroradiological research program, which encompasses research into neurovascular, neurodegenerative and neuro-oncological diseases. Aad personal research focuses on 1) vascular imaging (CTA/MRA) with emphasis on the characterization of atherosclerotic disease in the carotid artery with ultrasound, CT, and MRI; 2) studies in acute ischemic stroke patients; 3) validation of imaging biomarkers in clinical and population studies.

Dr. van der Lugt was co-PI of the well-known MR CLEAN study and its successors the MR CLEAN Registry and the MR CLEAN-MED study. He is involved in two European research Infrastructure projects (BBMRI and EuroBioImaging), both funded by H2020 grants. He has published more 400 peer-reviewed journal articles which have been cited more than 10,000 times. He is Past Director of the Hands-On teaching program of the ESMRMB, member of the Research Committee of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and Past Chair of the ESR Working Group on Personalized Medicine.
